Gregory A Smith

Born in 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, Greg Smith attended Case Western Reserve University majoring in English Literature with a minor in Art History. After graduation, he began independent art study, designing and producing a series of concert posters for several prominent classical music organizations. This led to a move to New York City to become the personal administrative assistant to the Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera.

In 1983 he became a resident of the Berkshires and began studying painting with Mark Milloff, concentrating on reproducing techniques of the old masters and impressionists.

His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries in Massachusetts, Ohio, Florida, and California. His recent show at the Syd Entel/Susan Benjamin Galleries in Safety Harbor, Florida with renowned painter Thomas Arvid, led to the orchid series of painting shown here. He also had a special exhibit at Canyon Ranch Spa and Resort in Lenox, Mass. He has also done many commissioned works for private individuals and corporations.

Greg Smith has been married for 29 years to artist and sculptor Aurora, whose work is also available on this site. They currently reside in Worthington, Mass. raising Newfoundland dogs.

Orchids - Laelio Catteleya Hybrid Trio - Giclée printAbout the Paintings

This recent series of flower paintings is inspired by a love of gardening, particularly a rose collection of over two hundred antique and modern varieties. The paintings, often a hundred times life size, give a butterfly's view of flower, bud, and leaf structure, paying special attention to light and color.

All of Greg Smith's paintings are oil on canvas. Limited edition giclée prints (shown above and at right) of many paintings are available for purchase. Each is signed and numbered, and can be framed. More information can be found with each painting.
